Rising from the ashes
You didn't hear from us because we rewrote Fritzing from scratch.
You will have noticed that we haven't posted any updates in a long while. In fact, we have been working harder and with twice the (wo)man power than ever to bring you a new incarnation of Fritzing, aptly code named "phoenix".
We started rewriting Fritzing from scratch after the feedback gathered at the Friends of Fritzing Summit in the past summer. The discussions at the summit helped us to refocus our vision, and coincidentally, we were unhappy with the flexibility and performance of the programming framework that we were working with. As a consequence, we decided to recreate Fritzing based on another technology (Trolltech's Qt, still completely open source) which gives us better performance and productivity, and also the chance to come closer to our vision.
Phoenix will be Fritzing 0006, and is to be expected later this year. In some aspects it will be rawer than 0005, but only to pave the way for the future. For instance, the new Fritzing strives to provide the basic functionality of Eagle and offer a seamless transition to a schematics view and a pcb view. Furthermore, the creation of custom parts will be greatly simplified with the Fritzing parts editor.
All of that is coming to your workbench soon, and we will post some previews shortly.
