Installing Eagle

How to install and configure the Eagle PCB software

Download and install the latest version of EAGLE

  1. Download the latest version of EAGLE from http://cadsoft.de/download.htm
(Fritzing supports EAGLE 5 beta or higher)
  2. Run the EAGLE installer

The self-extracting archive will guide you through the setup process. Choose a convenient destination for Eagle, and when prompted at the end of the setup choose Run as Freeware.

Windows Vista: The Eagle installation package needs to be either launched with admin rights (right click > run as admin) or manually extracted to your hard drive.

Turn on the custom Fritzing menu inside Eagle

  1. If Eagle is not running yet, start Eagle
  2. Open the User Interface panel (from the menu choose Options > User Interface...)
  3. Enable Command texts in the Controls section
  4. Click OK to close the User Interface panel.
  5. You can now benefit from the instructions and commands we added to the sidebar

Tell Fritzing where to find Eagle

  1. Within Fritzing, open the Preferences panel (File > Preferences...)
  2. Select the Eagle directory section (Fritzing > Eagle)
  3. Click "Browse..." to set the Eagle install location to the directory where you previously installed Eagle.
The location should read something like C:\Program Files\EAGLE-5 on Windows or /Applications/Eagle on Mac.

Mac OS X: If you installed Eagle 5.0.0, Fritzing will have problems finding it. You will have to rename the file EAGLE to lowercase eagle inside the folder /Applications/EAGLE/EAGLE.app/Contents/MacOS/. Sorry, but Cadsoft changed this recently without notice.
  4. Click OK to close the Fritzing Preferences panel
