Troubleshooting

Solutions to some of the known quirks

Requirements

Fritzing requires Java 1.5 (a.k.a. J2SE 5) or higher installed. If you don't have it, get it from http://java.com.
Apple is infamously slow in its Java support, so you should do an update to the latest available version to get the best results. Unfortunately, Java 1.5 is only available from OS X 10.4 on, although there does exist a hack to get it to run on Panther.

PCB Export

Why do I get a PCB Export Error that says "Could not find EAGLE installation at /." when I click "Export to PCB"?
You need to tell Fritzing where to find your installation of Eagle.  Navigate to File > Preferences.. > Fritzing > EAGLE and set the directory where Eagle is installed.
Why does Eagle tell me "The Light edition of EAGLE can't perform the requested action"?
The most likely cause is that parts are outside the bounds of Eagle's free PCB boundaries (140 mm x 100 mm) - move the components in Fritzing closer to the top left corner and try again.

Performance

Why is Fritzing so slow when working with the Breadboard?
That's because the Breadboard is by far the most complex part. It is a large image, has a myriad connectors which are internally connected with each other. We are aware of the problem and looking for a solution.
How can I improve the performance on my machine?
There are several things you can do:
  • In the global preferences, you can disable animation of layout and zoom, as well as anti-aliasing.
  • It also helps to stay zoomed out, as the amount of pixels to handle is much less.
  • Close the outline pane at the bottom right or switch it to the tree view.
  • Finally, if you still have problems, you can work without a breadboard.

Other

When I copy and paste a part, funny things happen..
DO NOT USE COPY/PASTE FOR NOW! It is broken, and in some situations can even break your sketch. We are working on a solution.
I closed one of the panes at  the bottom (Properties, Info, Outline). How do I get them back?
Press Alt+Shift+Q and then Q to bring up the Show View dialog. Select the missing pane and press OK.
