How do I add new parts in the fritzing app

Up to How do I...
I'm interested in producing Arduino shields that will have a DB25 right-angle connector on the shield as the external interface for my Arduino project. Are there plans to add standard connectors such as DB25/DB9, etc to the selection of "Parts" in the Fritzing application?

A huge priority for us right now is getting more parts into the standard library as well as making it possible for anyone to add custom parts.  We'll be working on the organization of parts as well and at the moment are looking at existing projects to determine the most common and useful parts to include.

Thank you for the DB-25 suggestion - it wasn't even on our list for coming versions, but I'll see what we can do.  Could you send along a manufacturer and/or vendor part number for the connector you use (and ditto for any other parts you'd like to see included)?

Hi everyone!

I'm new here. and tomorrow, I'll receive my Wiring board :)

I would like to find the Wiring Board to use it with Fritzing... Does it already exist ??

Cheeeeers!

Hi Julien,

no, not yet, but the support of different boards such as Wiring, Boarduino and others is one of the next steps.

Stay tuned!

I'll stay online

big congrats for your pretty project :)

Hi Julien, Thanks for the comment and request. It's very helpful to know which parts people want to include in their designs. A question for you: one of the ways that Fritzing supports Arduino designs is by allowing you to export a Fritzing sketch to an Arduino shield. Arduino shields are special-purpose boards that can be plugged into the Arduino board itself to allow new uses and functions (more information here: http://www.arduino.cc/en/Main/ArduinoShields). I'm not aware of anything similar with Wiring, but would an option to export to a Wiring board shield be useful and, if not, how would you like to integrate your Wiring board into a design?

I might not understand well the purpose of fritzing ;)

I imagined that :

I create a sketch (1st purpose)

I export it as a PCB and I make it real by sending this file to a company etc etc.

And I just have to plug my components in my real Printed circuit...

I'm a newbie!

You understand perfectly the purpose of Fritzing - sorry for the confusion with my reply ;) Eventually you will be able to create any kind of PCB output with Fritzing; Arduino shield, Wiring-based board, or any others. As you work with Fritzing, please let us know what other parts you would like to see in the core library.

Hello everybody

It will be very nice to see 4051 microchip on fritzing

:)

thanx

http://fritzing.org/download/pdk answers to your desire ;)

indeed, you can create the chip with this kit.

Hi julien

thanx for your quick reply

I was trying to run PDK but i got some errors..

first: it needs a python library called cheetah it easy to solve

but know when I run the script it looks to make everything but at some point it give an error on python-imaging..

it was while the script was  Converting dilpackage_temp.svg to fullicon.png

follow:

cannot identify image file

Error: Python Image Library couldn't be used. Make sure you installed it correctly
Copying the correct footprint in the part folder ...
Ready

--

I realized that it wrote an strange thing when generating one of the images, the last one before fullicon.png .. Converting dilpackage_temp.svg to part400.png ...

an double %%.. dont know if this can be the problm.. but follow:

Rasterizing image for icon (100%% with legs) ...

and when I run fritzing it does not show the new component..

any tips??

thanx a lot

Hey

I just realized too that the component was created but with-out an icon,

and everything is in red color on component.. with-out the description on it..

bye

Hi Jean,

Thanks for trying out the PDK! Sorry about the typo double%

But it seems your PIL is not totally properly installed. That means that you cannot create the correct images for your part. On which OS are you working?

Hi Dirk

I'm on ubuntu hardy.. the PIL packet installed is python-imaging

but now I'm trying again on another ubuntu hardy (studio 8.04) and Dil is working fine..  generating all images and xml..

I'll try again on the other PC

thanx

hi all

what if I want to create a 32 pins connector?

does Dil do it?

if not is there a way to do this in fritzing?

Hi,

currently unfortuntely we don't have any type of connector in our Fritzing parts and also we don't have the generators to create them yet.

We didn't yet figure out how we want to handle all the different connector types.

So, no sorry, currently there is no easy way to create them.

But you could make one manually and find the corresponding footprint i Eagle.
